It is our purpose to highlight a young person’s cancer story but in our #TCAYouthMonth it’s great that we can also acknowledge all those young people out there who are helping our mission and those going through cancer! #teenyoungadultstories
Dana Lerner has just done that very thing, where she brought awareness, fun, energy and raised money for Teen Cancer America in her amazing Shadowboxevent held in NYC!
Dana is a busy 25 year old, who graduated from Cornell University in 2014 and is currently working in NYC at Broadway Across America. Dana is the Business Intelligence Coordinator and a co-Producer on the Tony nominated Broadway play – INDECENT. She is also an avid boxer and Shadowbox is her gym of choice in NYC!
She volunteers with a few other organizations in NYC and was looking to get more involved with TCA in a tangible way. Her brother Jordan, who has written articles for TCA before was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 . This is what Dana has to say :
“When Jordan was re-diagnosed, I really turned to boxing to help me both physically and mentally. It’s fun to imagine the boxing bag is cancer and it’s SO therapeutic to punch the crap out of it! I also wanted to help bring awareness of TCA and the work they do in the east coast. For me, the value of doing this event was to bring my friends together to participate in a fun activity! I love raising money for an important cause which I love. Also, I really wanted to see Jordan box! My brother Jordan is a 2x Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor and is also a TCA Ambassador. TCA is an important part of our family as it has helped us all through Jordan’s diagnoses and treatments. I’ve seen first hand the value of TCA and how much good it does for patients, hospitals, caretakers and families affected by cancer.”
